AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU
April 13, 2018 - Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp. Auschwitz-Birkenau the largest of the concentration and extermination camps established on Polish soil, served concurrently as a labor camp and as a center for the rapid extermination of Jews. Birkenau (Auschwitz II) is where the mass murders were performed which is a few kilometers from Auschwitz. In Auschwitz-Birkenau, more than 1,100,000 Jews, 70,000 Poles, 25,000 Sinti and Roma (Gypsies) and some 15,000 prisoners of war from the USSR and other countries were murdered. It is very hard to comprehand the magatude of the atrocious of what happened. On April 12 each year is the International March of the Living, many had the Jewish flag wrapped around their shoulders. The International March of the Living is an annual educational program, bringing individuals from around the world to Poland and Israel to study the history of the Holocaust and to examine the roots of prejudice, intolerance and hatred.
